Steinar Sivertsen joined Norwegian Hull Club in 2009 in a hybrid role as Technical Manager & Claims Handler. Over the years, focus shifted increasingly to his technical manager role and, since, 2015 Steinar has been “Head of Technical Department”.

Steinar leads a team that often deals with highly challenging claims such as complex machinery damages, fires, flooding and groundings, and which may be subject to borderline Constructive Total Loss considerations. He is also responsible for The Club's network of surveyors, helping to ensure that our clients receive a standard of support and co-operation in line with our 'Expect more' pledge.

Steinar has a theoretical background from a 2nd Engineer education, a Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, as well as a Master of Management. His extensive experience in shipping started as a technical trainee in Jebsen Ship Management. He was there for 13 years, in roles including superintendent, technical manager, AVP of ship management and a project manager for Jebsen's new-build programme.

In 2005 he went to Green Reefers as VP Ship Management, responsible not only for vessels under own management but also monitoring vessels under third-party management. After joining Norwegian Hull Club, Steinar has been involved in CEFOR Technical Forum, becoming its Chair in 2015.

Steinar says: "We are involved in so many different and technically exciting cases. These are constantly expanding and challenging our technical knowledge and experience. Sharing this insight and lessons learnt with colleagues and clients is the main task of Norwegian Hull Club's Technical Department.”
